University of Greenwich Dreadnought Building
Dreadnought building at University of Greenwich is a central hub for students on the Greenwich Campus. The refurbished building brings everything students need into one place. There is a gym, student services, the Students’ Union bar and events space, cafes and coffee shops and flexible social spaces.
Drama by Design were engaged by the University to carry out the detailed design, co-ordination project management, testing and commissioning of all the AV systems throughout the buildings.
The building contains a range of different spaces with AV installations including teaching rooms, meeting rooms, office spaces, open spaces, video recording facilities, radio studio, events space and digital signage.
The teaching spaces are equipped with a combination of projection and display screens depending on the size of the spaces and the ambient light. All incorporate sound systems, cameras linked to a Panopto lecture capture system and teaching lecterns incorporating computers, DVD players and wireless presentation devices. Some of the rooms can be joined together to make one large teaching space and others have local input plates for collaborative working.
There are a range of meeting rooms including fully equipped video conference rooms, conventional meeting rooms with a screen and projector and ‘one-on’one’ rooms for student services meetings.
The psychology department incorporates two observation labs each with a professional standard video recording facility. These each include three HD PTZ cameras linked back to a central control room with a video switcher, audio mixer, multiview monitor and SD card recorders linked to the University network. In addition there are displays in the rooms for playing back the recordings and a paging system for making announcements into the room.
In the student union area there is a fully equipped three person radio studio for streaming onto the internet and a basement events space for club nights, live events, films and presentations. It incorporates a high power club sound system and DJ decks together with a more conventional stage production sound system and LED stage lighting system. A 4K PTZ camera enables events to be recorded and/or broadcast around the building over the Wyrestorm video over IP signage systems.
The basement incorporates a number of student social spaces and a bar all of which have speakers to relay an event or provide background music and display screens which also have local input so they can be used by societies and groups during the day. Digital signage around the building can provide a range of video and audio and is distributed over IP and controlled from touch panels.
