St Edmunds Church, Surrey, UK
St Edmund’s Church is a large stone-built late Victorian-style building in Goldalming, Surrey.
The old sound system provided poor quality sound reinforcement with inadequate coverage, so Drama by Design designed a complete new system.
The new system was designed not only to provide sound reinforcement for Church services, but also to be used by the Youth Music Group for amplifying both musical instruments and voice.
The system had to be installed sympathetically to ensure minimal intrusion into the historical Church architecture. Speakers were utilised offering tightly controlled dispersion to ensure that the maximum amount of sound would hit the seating area with little or no sound hitting the walls, thus ensuring that any echo was minimised.
The system consisted of a new sound rack mounted on the wall of an adjacent room containing amplifiers for the speakers and hard of hearing system, sound mixer, CD player/recorder and two radio microphone receivers.
The antennae for the radio microphones were installed remotely either side of the Church to ensure optimum reception. A remote control for the CD player was installed adjacent to the organ to allow recorded music to be controlled by the organist.
Discrete microphones were installed on the lectern and altar with additional microphone sockets mounted on the wall for connection of additional microphones and musical instruments when the system is used by the Youth Music Group.
